One team. An entire sub-region. 22 Esports is the only squad repping Latin America at the PUBG Global Championship (PGC) in Dubai.
Daniel “HazeteN” Elias, Marcos “v1n1” Vinicios, Erick “Haven” Aguiar, and Guilherme “guizeera” Barbosa make up a team that’s done more than enough to qualify to fight against some of the best teams in the world. We’re excited to see how they do in November.
22 Esports’ road to PGC
While roster changes have kept a full four man squad from playing together through every tournament, regular placements have earned them enough placement points to earn them a ticket to the PGC.
The year started off with an eleventh place finish at ESL Masters Phase 1. 22 Esports placed third during the Latin American Regional Playoff. They didn’t fare as well against North American teams, but did earn the second highest placement for a Latin American team in the Grand Final.
22 Esports showed noticeable improvement during the PUBG Continental Series 6: Americas. Haven and company finished second in the Latin American Regional Playoff behind A Creche. They followed up that performance with a fifth place finish during the Grand Final. 22 Esports wasn’t far behind big dogs like eUnited.
22 Esports at the PUBG Nations Cup
Haven found his ticket to Thailand and competed alongside A Creche and YAHO players on Team Brazil. He helped his team to a spectacular third place finish at the PUBG Nations Cup. That’s some valuable international experience that could be helpful in Dubai.
“We felt like we could have gone further, but we went further than they believed,” Haven said in a tweet originally written in Portuguese. “We have proven our country’s worth and left our mark, it will never be erased.”
That experience wouldn’t immediately translate to success back home as 22 Esports suffered a letdown during ESL Masters Phase 2. The squad had an admirable fifth place finish in the Latin American Regional Playoff before coming in last during the Grand Final.
A 16th place finish earned them ten PGC points. 22 Esports would need to have a clutch performance at the PUBG Continental Series 7: Americas in order to secure a ticket to Dubai over Synergy Esports.
That’s exactly what 22 Esports gave us. This team – in what felt like a career defining performance – finished third during the PCS7. They earned 236 points in a series where they were on the heels of eUnited and Soniqs. The high finish earned them 265 PGC points, which is over half of their overall total. Notably, young gun guizeera kept pace with the best players in the region in his first tournament since turning 18, racking up the most kills week 1 by a substantial margin and finishing the tournament with the 2nd most kills overall.
22 Esports will have their work cut out for them in Dubai. Company Man (22’s Coach) will need to rally this team to a performance similar to their fantastic finish at the PCS7.
